National Park Seminary Forest Glen Private Walking Tour
May 11, 2013 @ 1:45 pm - 4:00 pm$8
We’re going on a walking tour of THE COOLEST PLACE ever. A hidden gem inside the Washington Beltway, it was built as a resort hotel in 1887 and then became National Park Seminary, a boarding school for the nation’s wealthiest girls. With sorority houses modeled on buildings found in the 1893 Colombian Exposition in Chicago, the campus is an amalgam of international architectural styles — a pagoda, a chalet, a Dutch windmill building and much more.
It became a rehab facility for World War II, Korean War and Vietnam War veterans and then fell into disrepair.
The property has recently been developed for mixed-use housing, and it’s beautifully done, maintaining the quirkiness of the original and saving it from disrepair and decline.
We’ll be able to walk the property with a guide, learning about the history and seeing the property with a fun group of people. We’ll end with a snack in the grass.
We’ll be able to offer rides from the Forest Glen Metro stop (red line).
Do join us.
