Prejudice, Preconceived Notions and Foods You Love to Hate, a Feastly Dinner Party/Salon

October 5, 2012 @ 7:30 pm - 10:00 pm

We're partnering with Feastly, an online marketplace in DC (and New York) that connects passionate cooks with hungry eaters to offer homemade meals prepared and served in a cook's home. We're doing a twist on their usual events by partnering with Jessica O'Neal of JLOKitchens to do a combo salon and dinner party. We'll be feasting on misunderstood foods, things people think they hate but just haven't had properly cooked. And we'll have a conversation around prejudice and preconceived notions as we eat…

Searching for Sugarman Documentary and Discussion

April 1, 2013 @ 6:30 pm - 10:00 pm
private home DC United States + Google Map

Searching for Sugarman, an Oscar-winnning documentary, is the story of a man who had no idea he was famous. Sound impossible? Come watch this with us, and let's discuss it afterwards. We'll think about the themes of identity, how we see ourselves, how we react to how others see us (or our perceptions and misperceptions about that), and how we might change that to be more open to one another (and to our own gloriousness). We'll have movie theater snacks…

Forest Glen Seminary, 2755 Cassedy Street
Silver Spring, MD United States

We're going on a walking tour of THE COOLEST PLACE ever. A hidden gem inside the Washington Beltway, it was built as a resort hotel in 1887 and then became National Park Seminary, a boarding school for the nation's wealthiest girls. With sorority houses modeled on buildings found in the 1893 Colombian Exposition in Chicago, the campus is an amalgam of international architectural styles -- a pagoda, a chalet, a Dutch windmill building and much more. It became a rehab…
